Open the Flash file that you've been working with (if it's not already open). The Drag and Drop Interaction component is similar to the Quiz Options component that you configured in the previous lesson, in that it has Parameters to customize the interaction.
Next you'll see how to edit the Drag and Drop Interaction to add a question or instructions, control the behavior of the Drag objects, and customize the number of tries and feedback for correct and incorrect responses.
Watch the Demo: Configuring the Drag and Drop Interaction [running time 04:19 min.]
Summary
That was a longer demonstration than the previous ones, and it covered a lot of information. Now you've learned the basics of configuring the Drag and Drop Interaction. The other five learning interactions have similar Parameters and settings, so you should be able to apply your knowledge to configure those as well.
Procedure
Each type of interaction has a variety of parameters which you can customize for your quiz. No matter which type of interaction you're customizing, begin by following these steps.
Click anywhere on the interaction that is currently on the stage to select it.
Select Modify > Break Apart. Now instead of having a single large object selected, you have many smaller objects selected.
Deselect all of the items by using Control+Shift+A.
Select the Learning Interaction panel that appears to the left of the stage (beneath the "Quiz Options" panel that you edited earlier).
Select Window > Component Inspector.
What you will see here depends on the type of interaction you're working on. However, there are a few elements common to all six learning interactions. You will begin on the Parameters tab, which has three sub-tabs at the bottom of the window: Start, Options, and Assets.
On the Start sub-tab, give the interaction a unique ID by typing it in the Interaction ID box.
If your quiz must send information to an LMS, type a unique name in this box. If your LMS has specific naming conventions, make sure the name conforms to those conventions. The default learning interactions in the quiz templates already have unique names. If you add a new interaction from the library, make sure to give it a unique name. You’ll see how to do this later.
In the Question text box, type the text that you want the user to see. This can be a question or instructions for the user.
On the Options sub-tab, the Feedback checkbox indicates whether the learner should receive feedback based on her actions.
The Tries box specifies the number of attempts the learner is allowed.
Five feedback responses are available and appear depending on the learner’s choices.
Initial Feedback is a default instruction that the learner sees.
Once the learner has dragged an object onto a target, the Evaluate Feedback text appears to indicate the appropriate action the learner should take to evaluate her choices.
When the learner clicks the Check Answer button, she sees the Correct Feedback text if she has made the correct choices.
Otherwise she sees the Incorrect Feedback text unless she has more tries available.
If she has more tries available, she sees the Tries Feedback text.
Knowledge Track is a feature that tracks the learner’s performance and sends data to the LMS. In addition to the InteractionID (which is set on the Start sub-tab), you can set the following parameters:
ObjectiveID
If this assessment is related to an objective that is defined in the LMS, enter the objective’s LMS ID here. Otherwise this may be left blank.
Weighting
This numeric value is used to calculate the learner’s final score. The default value is “1.” A learning interaction with a weight of “2” would count twice as much as one with “1” and half as much as one with “4.” You can assign any numeric value.
When using a quiz template, the Navigation option is turned off for the particular learning interaction because the quiz template has its own navigation.
The Assets sub-tab enables you to rename text fields and user interface components. If you change the name of one of these components, you must also change the name of the related object on the stage. It’s best to leave these alone.
The Text Field Instance Names registers the names of the text field objects on the screen which display the question and the feedback.
The UI Component Instance Names registers the names of the control and reset buttons.
The Control Button Labels specify the text to appear on the various control buttons. Again, it’s best to leave all of these alone.
Preview
Now that you've configured the quiz and learning interaction options, you're ready to customize the Drag and Drop Interaction with some more interesting images for your quiz. Over the next few lessons, you'll also learn how to add, rename, and delete objects and frames to create a fully interactive assessment instrument.
