Course Description
Application of computer technology, theory, and research to solving problems relating to the instructional environment and facilities.
(Prereq: It is strongly recommended that you have taken EDIT 226 (Instructional Design Seminar). You can take both courses currently if approved by the instructor.) (3 Units)
EDIT 271 provides students with a basic introduction to web-based learning. Students will examine theories and practices in the field of distributed education. During the semester, students will develop familiarity with various types of instructional materials and delivery systems.
Course Goals
The major goal of the course is for students, working individually and/or in teams, to design educational media materials appropriate for use on the World Wide Web. Upon completion of this course, students will be familiar with and integrate the following concepts into the design, development, and implementation of web-based learning environments:
- Levels of interactivity in web-based learning
- Characteristics of "good" web screen design
- Knowledge of teaching and learning in a web-based environment
- Educational support for technology facilitated teaching and learning
- Instructional design models appropriate for use in distance education environments
- Integrating technologies to facilitate students learning
- Project management
- Resource management
- Delivery systems management
- Information management
- Formative and summative evaluation
